Introduction
Network against FGM/C in Somaliland (NAFIS) is a non-political, non-governmental and humanitarian network. NAFIS was established in late 2006 in Hargeisa by several local NGOs working towards the eradication of FGM/C. Currently, NAFIS has a membership of 20 organizations operating in all the regions of Somaliland. As the only nationwide network of its kind, the main purpose of NAFIS is to combat all forms of FGM/C in Somaliland through coordination and networking, policy framework, research, and documentation, capacity building for the key stakeholders, and media awareness.
NAFIS Network is implementing a project focusing on strengthening the sustainability of health systems in Somaliland with partner Plan International through provision of inclusive and age-gender responsive mobile outreach maternal and health care services to 231,000 marginalized women, adolescent girls, and children, strengthening health worker capacities and contribute to improving health systems management. 15,000 adolescents will benefit from increased access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education and adolescent friendly SRH services. In addition, the project will develop technical resources on mobile clinics, incorporating the management of complications from female genital mutilation and providing adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive information and services
Role Purpose
The pharmacist will work closely with a team of Mobile Health Teams and local staff to ensure that good pharmaceutical practice is achieved and that national rules are complied with. He/She will work with the logistical and medical teams and will need to be able to ensure cooperation for the project “Strengthening health systems in Somaliland and provision of essential inclusive and age-gender-responsive health services for marginalized populations”.
Key Areas of Accountability:
Under the direct supervision of the Field Officer the Pharmacist is required to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
- Dispense the medicines prescribed by the doctor to the patients
- Ensure patients receive the right medication which has been prescribed by the doctor
- Record and document the drug consumption tally sheet on daily bases
- Prepare and submit weekly and monthly drug consumption reports to the Field Officer
- With the support of the Field Officer ensure that all medical supplies including drugs are entered into the pharmacy stock cards
- Maintain stock in and out system regularly
- Ensure that all drugs are kept at a relevant temperature
- Inform the Field Officer about the shortage of medical supplies including medicines’ expiry dates or those damaged.
- Maintain up-to-date records of all medical supplies/drugs in the pharmacy
- Ensure proper storage of all items as per their specific storage requirements
- Advise on any relevant pharmaceutical issue when called upon to do so
- Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
- A valid degree in pharmacy
- A minimum of 3 years experience as a pharmacist, ideally working in a hospital or relevant facility
- Ability to manage supplies and organize stocks
- Computer literacy and good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience in training, coaching, and supervision
- Work or travel experience in IDPs and hard-to-reach areas
- A good command of the English language
- Can produce comprehensive reports in English
- Ability to cope with stress and to organize and prioritize workload
- Ability to work in a humanitarian field
- Willingness to work in hard-to-reach areas and IDPs
