In the IDP camps of Nasahablod and Statehouse, gender-based violence (GBV) and human rights violations often go unreported silenced by fear, stigma, and isolation. But a bold shift is happening through the Community-Level Monitoring of Human Rights Violations and Referral Pathways initiative.
Through this initiative, youth- and women-led SHGs have been equipped to recognize abuse, respond with care, and link survivors to life-saving services. Ayan, an SHG member, recalls how the training changed her role in the community:
“The training gave me the tools and confidence to support survivors. When a young girl in my community was assaulted, I helped ensure she received medical care, legal support, and counseling. Now, she’s healing and joining peer groups that give her strength.”
— Ayan, SHG Member
Today, SHG members are trusted allies and first responders. Their work includes:
• Offering emotional and psychosocial support
• Facilitating referrals to health, legal, and protection services
• Conducting awareness sessions on rights, mental health, and reporting pathways
These brave women are turning silence into action, isolation into solidarity, and fear into justice. Their voices are reshaping what safety and dignity look like in the most vulnerable settings.
