BACKGROUND

Network against FGC in Somaliland (NAFIS) is the national network for ending female genital cutting and empowering women in economic, social and political by bringing sustainable development and positive social transformation based on respect for human rights and poverty reduction approaches (Self-help Group). The main tasks of the network are to advocate for ending FGC, Build Capacity of civil society organizations and government institutions, support FGC survivors for counseling and medication and as well as empowering women and girls. Therefore, NAFIS is looking for a qualified communication officer with main responsibility for developing and implementing the external communication and media and fundraising strategies of the Network, including through the website, social media, newsletters, press contacts, and briefings.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Working closely with the Programme team of the network and member organizations as needed and will be responsible for:

  • Closely collaborate with the projects team to pro-actively and re-actively obtain and pitch resources. Gather and prepare communication materials for input into the document management tools (photos, video footage, stories, quotes, program updates, reports, and interviews).
  • Gather and prepare fundraising materials (project overviews and proposals, reports, gift handles, direct marketing resources (NAFIS Network news articles, web articles, campaign articles, social media updates, and thank you videos).
  • Prepare, facilitate, and accompany field visits of high profile visitors, photographers, journalists, or media crews. When applicable, draft terms of reference and contracts according to guidelines.
  • Actively conceptualize, facilitate, and produce short content updates and creative, interactive features on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Advice on institutional donor marking visibility budgets, conditions, and requirements. Advise logistics staff on the correct design of field visibility items based on NAFIS and institutional donor guidelines.

Required qualifications:

  • Professional qualification in communications / fundraising / public relations / media or public relations.
  • Training or experience in multi-media production and editing.
  • Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written).

Experience / Competencies

  • 3-5years of professional experience in media, communications, public relations, or fundraising. https://somalilandgov.com/
  • Strong grasp of online social media tools and techniques.
  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Photoshop.
  • Capable of managing a varied workload, and able to operate in complex but fascinating contexts.
  • Highly organized with a creative flair and good attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to target different audiences and to tailor output accordingly.
  • A dynamic, passionate, and creative communicator
