Building Social Institution through Self Help Group approach

Commemoration of SHG EVENT 2021

In Burao, Togdheer region, the NAFIS Network conducted a SHG Event Day (Danwadaag). The event was attended by the Minister of Parliamentary Relations and Constitutional Affairs (MoPRCA), the Minister of Employment, Social Affairs, and Family Affairs, the Mayor Buroa and Governor of the Togdheer region, the Executive Director and Chairperson of the NAFIS Network, and the Chairperson of the Qaran Federation (SHG). During the event, the Coordinator of the SHG program underlined the importance of self-help groups in developing social, economic, and political engagement.

NAFIS Network provided also provides grants to 30 women whose lives had been impacted by COVID19 by presenting them with donations to boost their livelihood from Sources to recovery supported by Plan International

 

 

 

 

Mr. Khalid Sa’ad Hersi, the SHG national coordinator, Said

a self-help group is an association for underprivileged groups in the same area that can be formed by 15 to 20 members from a homogeneous group who meet, save weekly and have rules and regulations among themselves. The benefit of SHG is me and my family. When he explained how the program creates business opportunities, he stated that “from their weekly savings, they reinvest in one of the members, later they become customers, and this is how their business thrives.” He also gives a brief about the second level cluster level association (CLA) which consists of 8 to 10 SHG can form this level and its benefit is the betterment of the community. CLAs are the backbone of this approach as take the role of the promoting organization and sustain the approach. The third level is federation and more than 8 CLAs can form a federation the benefit is for the nation.

There are self-help groups around the world, only Africa 17 countries are implementing it, ” said Abdirahman Gas, the director of the Nafis network,

Somaliland is much more than a new self-help group approach. The SHG was launched in Somaliland in 2013, and it has become a pilot testing in the Maroodi-jeh and Togdheer region of Somaliland. 11 Promoted organizations who are members and non-member in NAFIS Network were implemented. A self-help group is a group that aims to build a better life for poor people by giving them hope and assisting them in breaking free from poverty. Currently, we have more than 1980 SHGs and 100 CLA, and 2 federations in Hargeisa and Togdheer region with above 39529 members.

and explained deeply the establishment period of the Program and its current states, and Khadra has slogan about the program ” get out the poverty and get in the job”

“We are getting out of poverty and we are planning to expand our self-help group idea without waiting for anyone.”

The Minister of Relations with the Constituent Assembly also spoke “A mother is a person but she is a family. If the family goes out of poverty and the nation goes out, the mother is an organization that represents the whole nation, so we must protect that shining number,” he said.

The Minister of Justice of Somaliland also said, “We want to make it clear that this project is one of the most rewarding projects in this project. We promise to stand by our partners everywhere in self-help groups. ”

The Minister of Parliamentary Relations and Constitutional Affairs also spoke, saying, “A mother is a person, but she is also a family.

” If the family gets out of poverty and the nation gets out, the mother is a body that manages the entire nation, so we must defend this brilliant socio-economic development. “We want to make it known that this project is one of the most rewarding undertakings in this project,” Somaliland’s Minister of Justice added. We guarantee to be there for our partners in self-help groups all around the world.”

Finally, the mayor of Burao said, “People in real life are the mothers who make the most of their finances and live for them. They are the mothers.
