 ABOUT NAFIS NETWORK

Network Against FGM/C in Somaliland (NAFIS) is a non-political, non-governmental, and humanitarian network. NAFIS was established in November 2006 in Hargeisa, Somaliland, by several local NGOs working to eradicate FGM/C. Currently, NAFIS has 20 member organizations operating in all the regions of Somaliland. As the only nationwide network of its kind, the primary purpose of NAFIS is to combat all forms of FGM/C in Somaliland through coordination and networking, policy framework, research, documentation, and capacity building for the key stakeholders and media awareness.

ABOUT THE Project

NAFIS network is currently implementing a project entitled “Kickstart for equality – using sports and arts for girls’ rights., and duty bearers’ this project will advance human rights and strengthen social cohesion through community sports and arts engagement in Somalia, with a particular focus on young women and girls.  in Hargeisa region and its goal Increased advancement of human rights and freedom of expression in Somalia and Somaliland.

OBJECTIVE Assignment

The consultant will be responsible for:

  • Develop and contextualize a comprehensive training manual on human rights, social cohesion, and peacebuilding for tailoring to the specific needs of grassroots women in SHGs and youth in IDP camps and host communities.
  • Translate validated the produced manuals into the Somali language to ensure manual beneficiaries understand easily and adopt them.

SCOPE OF WORK

The consultant’s responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting a thorough review of existing resources and materials on human rights, social cohesion, and peacebuilding
  • Consulting with relevant stakeholders, including SHG members, youth, community leaders, and subject matter experts, to gather insights and ensure the manual’s relevance.
  • Developing a comprehensive training manual that covers topics such as human rights, social cohesion, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, dialogue facilitation, and women’s role in peacebuilding.
  • Incorporating practical tools, case studies, and interactive activities into the manual to enhance participants’ understanding and engagement.
  • Ensuring the manual reflects the local context, and cultural nuances, and addresses the specific challenges faced by grassroots women in SHGs and youth in IDP camps and host communities.
  • Translating the final training manual from English to Somali
  • Providing a user-friendly and visually appealing layout for the manual, with clear sections and graphics to enhance comprehension.

DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The consultant will work for 35 days, including the manual development and translations.  Beyond the manual approval, the consultant will provide any necessary support without payment during the training manual adaptation for target users.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The consultant should have a strong background in human rights, and gender equality, and have undertaken extensive knowledge on social cohesion based on the SHG approach, and peacebuilding, or related fields.

The consultant should Demonstrate experience in developing training manuals or resources on human rights, social cohesion, or peacebuilding.

Familiarity with the Somali context and understanding of the challenges faced by grassroots women in SHGs and youth in IDP camps and host communities.

Excellent writing and communication skills in English and Somali.

Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and incorporate feedback effectively.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Education

Bachelor’s or master’s Degree in a relevant field such as Human Rights, Peacebuilding, Social Sciences, International Development, or a related discipline.

Master’s degree in development studies (preferred).

Knowledge and Understanding

Strong knowledge and understanding of human rights, social cohesion, and peacebuilding concepts.

Familiarity with the challenges faced by grassroots women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and youth in IDP camps and host communities.

  • Manual Development

Demonstrated experience in developing training manuals or similar resources on human rights, social cohesion, peacebuilding, or related topics.

Ability to structure information, create practical tools, and present complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner.

  • Language Proficiency

Excellent writing and communication skills in both English and Somali.

Ability to effectively convey information, ensuring linguistic accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and appropriate terminology in the translated manual.

  • Research and Analysis

Proficiency in conducting research, gathering relevant information, and analyzing human rights, social cohesion, and peacebuilding data.

Ability to assess existing resources, best practices, and the specific needs of grassroots women in SHGs and youth in IDP camps and host communities.
