conducted trainings for 75 members from the primary health staff ( Mother and child health centers) and health communities in three regions Togdheer, Awdal and Marodijeeh. The main aim of the trainings were to expand the female genital mutilation (FGM/C) awareness raisings and referral systems.
NAFIS was implementing the FGM/C survival supports in these three regions for the last five years which integrated into the primary health system (under MCHs), this times NAFIS and the Ministry of Health decided to enlarge the FGM/C counseling and referral system into six more MCHs per region.
Antenatal staff and community mobilizors were trained on the short and long term complications of female genital mutilation FGM/C in human rights perspective and gender based violence in general, nature/the history and the different types of FGM/C, the referral system of FGM/C cases and its management. At the completion of the training, the participants were all pledged that they will actively participate in the efforts of FGM/C eradication in their respective communities and in nationwide as well.
These trainings were part of strengthening trainings for health staff to redouble the FGM/C survival support which implementing by NAFIS Network for the last five years with the collaboration of Ministry of health and regional health committees in the respective regions.
